Zelensky Says He Canceled The Elections So He Can Save Democracy
UKRAINE — President Zelensky pushed back on Trump calling for elections in Ukraine, saying that he is instead focused on protecting democracy.
“Elections are not important,” said Zelensky during his weekly fundraising call with world leaders. “If we allow elections to get in the way, then democracy will be destroyed. We will lose everything, including my Rolls Royce. But forget about that, what’s really important right now is having a seat at the negotiating table with Putin, not running elections.”
Trump wasn’t buying it. “If he wants a seat at the negotiating table, he must hold elections in Ukraine, and I hate to say it, his rating has tanked, and the country is in ruins,” said Trump.
At publishing time, Trump said he’s considering sending the Army to take over Ukraine, run a fair election, and then cut a deal with Putin.
