Shocking New Study Finds Disagreeing With Trans People Not Same As Hating Them
DUNEDIN, OTAGO — A fascinating new study from the University of Otago found that disagreeing with the rainbow community on certain use of words, lifestyle, and social issues, is not the same as hating, defaming, or inciting violence against them.
The study analysed thousands of users online who self-identified as part of the rainbow community, and found that while they disagree with the many topics, and call-out inappropriate behaviour within the community, the majority of them do not hate gay and transgender people, with most treating them just like normal people.
“Our shocking research is conclusive that just because a person, let’s say someone like Ani O’Brien disagreeing with Benjamin Doyle, does not necessarily mean that they despise them and are inciting violence against them,” a University of Otago researcher told reporter. “Our research indicates that it is not always appropriate to automatically correlate common-sense social stances on sex and gender to bigoted homophobia and transphobia.”
At publishing time, Ani O’Brien just disagreed with a few more people online.
