NZ — As New Zealand shifts to measure road usage charges by tracking every kilometre driven, a newly unveiled Chris Bishop GPS, designed by EROAD, now scolds drivers for late-night trips to McDonald’s.
The new device, set to roll out just in time for summer road trips, features Transport Minister Chris Bishop’s voice and face berating drivers for destroying the roads and climate with unnecessary trip and longer routes.
“Mate, really? You just had dinner 2 hours ago. I literally watched you, through the camera installed in your house, that you had a giant steak and mashed potatoes,” Bishop was heard saying during a demo video published by EROAD. “And you skulled 2 beers before taking this trip. Are you drunk driving right now??”
At publishing time, EROAD said that this feature is disabled for government employees as New Zealand transitions into adopting George Orwell’s 1984 framework for governing its citizens.
