HOLLYWOOD — Netflix announced that Green Party MP Benjamin Doyle will lend his creative words to the iconic role of Aslan in their upcoming adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia.
The streaming giant praised Doyle’s “unique way with kids” as the key factor in their casting decision, sparking immediate buzz, and a few raised eyebrows, across the internet.
“We were looking for someone who could bring a fresh, bold energy to the King of Narnia,” said Netflix executive producer Mark Gordon. “When we saw Benjamin’s Instagram, and learned about his, uh, creative approach to engaging younger audiences, we knew he was the one.”
Sources close to the production say Netflix was particularly impressed by Doyle’s ability to connect with children on a deep, emotional level, as the streaming platform takes a new direction to appeal to kids.
“It is a subculture today, and critiques will argue that this is borderline pedo-stuff, but kids are being normalised with this, and this is what our audiences under the age of 12 want,” explained Gordon.
At publishing time, Netflix clarified that Doyle’s recording sessions involving under-age voice actors would be supervised.
