National Clarifies That Deficit Spending Only A Problem When Labour Does It
WELLINGTON, NZ — Soon after releasing the 2025 budget featuring billions of spending that adds to the Government’s deficit, National party members helpfully explained to the nation that deficit spending is only bad when Labour does it.
“We know that no one likes deficits more than National, but this is totally different,” said Finance Minister Nicola Willis. “This is a National deficit. You see, it’s different because we are responsible with our borrowing, as we spend it on things that give us a better return. Yes, you could argue that we are taking a risk, but it is better than going bankrupt.”
Economists who fact-checked the Finance Minister’s claim have admitted that National is now the one who is overspending, which is different than when Labour does the overspending. “Her logic is unbreakable,” said Jordan Williams, the lead economist for New Zealand Taxpayers Union.
The deficit spending is set at NZ$12.1 billion for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026 compared to Labour’s deficit spending for 2023 at $9.4 billion.
At publishing time, National assured nervous Kiwis that the job of bankrupting the Government will be handed over to Labour next year, and then they plan to takeover in 2029, spending 3 years gaslighting Labour for bankrupting the Government.
