Muslim Leader Scolds David Seymour For Failing To Enforce Nationwide Ramadan Fast: "No Lessons Learned Since March 15th"
In a scathing rebuke of ACT leader David Seymour, FIANZ (Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand) spokesperson Abdur Razzaq has lamented the government's continued failure to compel every New Zealand school student to observe the Ramadan fast. According to Razzaq, the lack of a state-mandated dawn-to-dusk hunger regime for children as young as five is yet another sign that "no lessons have been learned since March 15th."
"Ramadan is about discipline, self-reflection, and solidarity," Razzaq declared, "and what better way to foster a culture of unity than by ensuring that every Kiwi child, regardless of their background, gets the authentic experience of hunger, thirst, and exhaustion?"
He specifically called out David Seymour, whose resistance to government overreach, Razzaq admitted, has become “something of a personal affront”.
"Seymour claims to be a champion of choice, but when it comes to the choice to fast, suddenly it's optional?! This is the hypocrisy we are dealing with."
In response, Seymour issued a statement reminding Razzaq that “New Zealanders come from a variety of backgrounds, and demanding they follow the practise of any faith would be a breach of fundamental human rights”.
The statement sent shockwaves through FIANZ, with Razzaq accusing Seymour of "dog-whistling”.
“I’d like Mr. Seymour to point out for me where it says in the New Zealand Bill Of Rights that lunch is a human right.”
The organization has now called for an official inquiry into why New Zealand schools continue to provide meals to children during Ramadan, an act Razzaq described as "a blatant affront to inclusivity."
“This should be settled, already. We had hoped, by 2025, that the country would’ve moved on to every New Zealand student choosing their Muslim name”.
While no official response has come from Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, he did reiterate, when directly questioned on the topic at the morning’s press conference, that he would arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if the leader ever visited New Zealand, in the hope Razzaq would like him and just leave him the Hell alone.
