NZ — Colossal Biosciences announced the triumphant return of the moa bird, a massive, flightless creature native to New Zealand, extinct since the Maori reportedly hunted it into extinction.
The biotech company partnered with famed director Peter Jackson to feature the moa in his upcoming Lord of the Rings movie, ‘The Return of the Moa’.
Colossal’s co-founder Ben Lamm, boasted, “We’ve brought back the moa to restore New Zealand’s ecological heritage and give Peter Jackson a bird that doesn’t need CGI to look epic.”
But the de-extinction was short-lived. “I went to bed dreaming of moa-riding battle scenes, and I woke up to a crime scene that looked like KFC bones after a rugby match,” Peter Jackson said.
“We spent billions to de-extinct the moa, and in one night, it’s back into extinction again. We underestimated that the bird is delicious, and next time, we will stick a Do Not Eat sign before releasing the birds in the wilderness.”
At press time, the moa bird was returned from its second extinction, oh wait, the Maori ate it again!
