AUCKLAND, NZ — Mayor Wayne Brown has taken matters into his own hands—or rather, his own cone.
Frustrated by the endless sea of orange cones clogging the city’s streets, Brown repeatedly demanded that construction crews cease placing cones. When his pleas fell on deaf ears, the mayor devised a plan as audacious as it is absurd: disguise himself as a road cone to catch the culprits red-handed.
Residents reported sightings of an unusually wobbly cone near Queen Street, which turned out to be Brown himself, decked out in a custom-made, traffic-cone costume.
The sting operation yielded mixed results. Brown nabbed two teenagers placing cones as a prank, but he also accidentally startled a construction worker, who mistook him for a new type of smart cone.
At publishing time, Mayor Brown is now in a Council meeting dressed as a cone because he is one!
